Hot Cash - Live The Dream

My parents have lived in the same house for over 40 years in very small community. My mother was a school bus driver for 27 years and when she retired, she decided to sell real estate. As my parents have gotten older they have started to compare life insurance. My mother wasn't happy with some of the companies that she was working with and jokingly one day told us children that in the event of my stepfather dying, she would buy a huge freezer and not tell anyone he had passed. Once a month she would thaw him out drive him to the post office and collect his social security and retirement checks and get them cashed at the bank. She had it planned down to the smallest detail. She would tie a string to is left wrist and place a beer in his right hand and as people would see them, she would work the strings so he could wave happily.

As she tells the story, my sisters and I are laughing, trying to tell her to compare life insurance online to see what coverage she could get at the same time telling her that she could be booked for first degree murder. It has been such a big joke in our family that other family members have looked at huge freezers and they tell people not to compare life insurance, just buy the freezer and put the spouse in it when they passed. A good friend of ours who is in life insurance wanted to put on a billboard, "Please compare life insurance, before buying an upright freezer."

This summer, we were at our camp by the river and it had rained very hard in the middle of the night and raised the river almost to our campers and tents. My step-father walked a little way down a small incline to see the rising water and he fell into the river. It took my brothers to get him out of the water. After we got over the excitement and exhaustion of getting an 80 year old man out of the water, my mother turned to him and said, "How in the world can I freeze you and make you look real if you are eaten by the turtles!" We all laughed so hard that tears were rolling down our faces, but my step-father didn't think it was funny!
